DIE ENTDECKUNG EINER NEUEN KATEGORIE DER KERAMIK AUS DER VÖLKERWANDERUNGSZEIT IN GROßPOLEN

Tadeusz Makiewicz

There was a new type of wheel made pottery identified at some settlements in Great Poland, which was first recognized at numerous sites of the same type in Southern Poland. It has been almost impossible to assign proper dates of it for a long time. Although some further excavations have shown that the beginning of this kind of pottery is connected with the late ancient pottery dated in the east Alpine region from the end of the 4th to the 6th centuries AD. That chronology is supported by a few dendrochronologic dates gathered at one of the settlements in Great Poland. Recenty it seems to be obvious that the pottery under investigation was significant during the Migration Period of the Przeworsk culture.
