CONFERENCE: New Light on Piranesi Thursday 5 April (and off site 6 April) Sponsored by the American Academy in Rome and the Centro di Studi sulla Cultura e l'Immagine di Roma A two-day conference of which the first day, April 5, will be held at the American Academy in Rome and the second day, April 6, at the Villa Farnesina on Via della Lungara. Through his endeavors as a printmaker, architect, archeologist and designer, Giovanni Battista Piranesi (1720-78) used images and monuments of the past in new ways. Despite being one of the most popular artists of his time, his life and career remain shadowy. This conference will re-examine his life and work through new interpretations and documentary evidence.
