Renowned Architect MICHAEL GRAVES Delves into the
The Necessity for Drawing
at a Public Lecture Devoted to Classical Ruins
and the Creative Process
in New York City, February 7, 2002

Sponsored by Target Stores
Lecture is Co-Hosted by the American Academy in Rome
and The Institute of Classical Architecture

The internationally renowned architect and product designer Michael Graves is beloved for his unique blend of classical allusion with whimsy-qualities often in evidence whether the design is a teakettle for Alessi, a toaster for Target Stores or a major museum expansion or library. In an illustrated lecture entitled The Necessity for Drawing, Graves will offer insight into his creative process through a selection of early drawings from his travels spent recording significant classical buildings and places in Rome, including his time as a Rome Prize Fellow. He will discuss how that experience has affected his professional work to date and will reflect on the importance of drawing in an architect's education and practice.

Adele Chatfield-Taylor, President of the American Academy in Rome, will provide introductory remarks. This event is co-organized by the American Academy in Rome and The Institute of Classical Architecture and sponsored by Target Stores.
