FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY LECTURE: Roberto Rusconi
presents L'ultimo sermone: vita, morte e miracoli dell'Anticristo alla fine del medioevo

Thursday 20 March
Lecture Room - 6pm

This illustrated lecture honors the memory of Patricia Labalme, former head of the Friends of the Library. Taking as his point of departure the famous fresco by Luca Signorelli in the chapel of S. Brizio in the Orvieto Cathedral, Rusconi will trace the fortunes of a particular literary genre, the illustrated pamphlets on the life of the Antichrist that were printed and circulated in Germany, France, Italy, and Spain in the late 15th and early 16th centuries. He will focus on the iconographic representations of Antichrist and his followers as preachers.

Note: The lecture will be in Italian.

  • The Library will hold a sale of duplicate books on March 20 (reserved for the Friends of the Library and the AAR community) and March 21 (open to all Library readers) from 10am to 12pm and from 2pm to 5pm.
