LECTURE: John Henderson, "Filth is the mother of corruption". Plagues, Putrefaction and the Body of the Poor in Early Modern Florence

John Henderson will evoke contemporary perceptions of the environment, of smells, sewage and corrupt air, in early modern Italy, with special emphasis on the outbreak of plague in 1629-1633 and its effect on Florence as capital of the Grand Duchy of Tuscany.

Mr. Henderson is a Fellow of Wolfson College, University of Cambridge.
