The Search for the Perfect Book |
Alessandro Barchiesi, a scholar of Roman literature and culture, has published
mainly on Augustan poetry (Virgil, Horace, and Ovid). He is especially
interested in the interaction between Classics and contemporary theories
of literature and criticism. The lectures present a comparative study
of poetic texts of the Augustan age (Virgil, Propertius, Horace, and Ovid)
and of Roman imaginations and debates about 'Hellenization' - a contested
territory of exploitation and influence, appropriation and alienation.
