American Academy in Rome: Overview

Photo Essay of Keith Haring Sculpture Exhibition
27 January to 27 July, 2003

Through a collaboration with the KEITH HARING FOUNDATION and independent curator, GIANNI MERCURIO, the AMERICAN ACADEMY IN ROME was the recipient of a six month loan of four Keith Haring sculptures. Three of the pieces are on exhibit in the Triangle Garden and one is on the terrace between two sculpture pavilion studios through July, 2003.

Bold splashes of color characterize Haring's work and
these four pieces are no exception.

Julia, 1987, Painted aluminum

Untitled (Figure on a Dog), 1986,
Painted steel

While oversized metal works they still retain the delightful playfulness that is a signature of Keith Haring.

Haring's Pop Art and graffiti-based references are clearly and playfully visible in these works.
