Member Institutions

The American Academy in Rome invites colleges, universities and other educational and cultural institutions to become Member Institutions. Their participation helps to maintain and support the Academy, which in turn serves as an important scholarly resource for their faculty members, graduate students, curatorial staff, and researchers.

Following is a list of current Member Institutions. Many of these leading colleges and universities have been Members since 1895 when the program was created by and for the American School of Classical Studies in Rome (see overview). Founding members are indicated by asterisks.

For information on how your institution can become an institutional member, contact Suzanne Liebolt, Corporate Secretary, at s.liebolt@aarome.org or (212) 751-7200 ext 22.

JANUS, the Roman god of passage, is usually shown with two faces, one regarding the past and the other surveying the future. Long associated with the Janiculum hill, site of the American Academy in Rome, the Janus head was chosen to symbolize the Academy's role as a link between past and future.
