The American Academy in Rome has appointed Caroline Goodson, a professor of early medieval history at the University of Cambridge and a 2003 Rome Prize Fellow in medieval studies, as its next Andrew W. Mellon Humanities Professor.
The acclaimed astrophysicist David Spergel, considers that modern astronomy began on what is now the property of the American Academy in Rome when, in 1611, Galileo Galilei demonstrated his renowned perspicillum.
