Leonard Barkan is the Arthur W. Marks '19 Professor of Comparative Literature at Princeton, with appointments as well in the Department of Art and Archaeology and the Department of English. Among his books are The Gods Made Flesh: Metamorphosis and the Pursuit of Paganism and Unearthing the Past: Archaeology and Aesthetics in the Making of Renaissance Culture. He has written widely on Renaissance art and literature; he has been an actor and a director; he has also published articles in both America and Italy on food and wine. He will read from his memoir of life in Rome, which will be published by Farrar, Straus and Giroux in 2006.
