Book Presentation: Walls and Memory

Monday 12 June

6pm Book Presentation
Palazzo Doria Pamphilj
Piazza del Collegio Romano, 2

A presentation of Elizabeth Fentress, Caroline Goodson, Margaret Laird and Stephanie Leone, Walls and Memory, The Abbey of San Sebastiano at Alatri (Lazio) from Late Roman Monastery to Renaissance Villa and Beyond (Brepols, 2005). San Sebastiano’s 1500-year-old history has been marked by its association to important figures, from Saint Benedict to Pope Nicholas V and his circle of humanists. This book presents the results of a project that revealed the plan and preserved walls of one of Europe’s oldest monasteries, as well as one of its earliest Renaissance villas. Speakers will include Professors Beat Brenk (University of Rome “La Sapienza”), Carmela Vircillo Franklin (FAAR‘85, RAAR’02, Director of the American Academy in Rome), and Anthony Grafton (RAAR’04, Princeton University).
