Martin and Mildred Friedman
From Classic White Box to BaroquePleasurePalace: The ContemporaryArt Museum in America

As art changes, so do the places in which it can be seen. New American museums have become instant architectural icons. Martin Friedman (Roy Lichtenstein Resident in Visual Arts, American Academy in Rome; Director Emeritus, Walker Art Center) and Mildred Friedman (Roy Lichtenstein Resident in Visual Arts, American Academy in Rome; former Design Curator, Walker Art Center) will offer an overview of these dramatic new buildings – their design, their increasingly public roles, and their new audiences.

Please note that the American Academy in Rome requires all visitors attending events to present a legal document of identification.
