America’s Imperial Consumer Culture: Its Rise and Fall

Victoria de Grazia (FAAR’78, Isabel and Laurance P. Roberts Resident in Modern Italian Studies, American Academy in Rome; Professor of History and James C. Barker Professor of Contemporary Civilization, Columbia University) is the author of Irresistible Empire: America’s Advance through Twentieth Century Europe (2005). She will talk about the role of marketing, cinema, and other dimensions of American consumer culture in establishing U.S. global hegemony.
