Demystifying Mary Magdalen

The success of the The Da Vinci Code has occasioned much discussion on Mary Magdalen. In this illustrated lecture, Katherine L. Jansen (FAAR’95, Associate Professor of History, Catholic University of America) will explore the historical construction of this popular saint, showing that history has bequeathed to us a far richer and complicated figure than recent fiction has assumed. She is the author of The Making of the Magdalen: Preaching and Popular Devotion in the Later Middle Ages (2000).
