John Corigliano
Audible Architecture: Sound and Structure in the Music of John Corigliano
Wednesday 11 June
6pm Lecture
Lecture Room
Via Angelo Masina, 5

John Corigliano will take his audience through the building of a piece of his music, beginning with a pre-compositional process in which the piece is constructed in detail before any notes or rhythms are composed. This procedure includes personal typed memos regarding the questions imposed by the project and the development of a blueprint that indicates not only the emotional shape of the work, but also the architecture of the elements of the piece. At the end of the lecture, a recording of the work will be performed. John Corigliano serves on the faculty at the Juilliard School of Music, is Distinguished Professor of Music at Lehman College, City University of New York, and is Paul Fromm Composer in Residence at the American Academy in Rome.
