The role of the last pagans of Rome in preserving traditional religion and classical literature and its values has been re-examined by Alan Cameron, Charles Anthon Professor of the Latin Language and Literature, Columbia University, in his forthcoming book. Three prominent scholars of late antiquity will discuss the arguments and implications of key elements of his book as they relate to religion, society and literature in the fourth and fifth centuries. Participants include: Alan Cameron, Franca Ela Consolino, Università dell’Aquila, and Arnaldo Marcone, Università degli Studi di Udine. It will be chaired by Michele Renee Salzman, FAAR’87, Professor of History at the University of California at Riverside and Lucy Shoe Meritt Scholar in Residence at the American Academy in Rome. This event is made possible by a grant from the Department of Classics at Columbia University.
