Lecture Room - 6pm Romeo De Maio is Professor of Modern History at the Università di Napoli "Federico II". He will give a lecture titled: "La parresia come furore nella crisi del Rinascimento." Using texts of Jacopo Sannazaro, Michelangelo, Vittoria Colonna and other anticlerical Catholic writers, De Maio will present "Parrhesia" (Candor) as the need to speak the truth in the exercise of freedom. He will also discuss Francesco Guicciardini and the destruction of the Catholic vocabulary, the imprisoned soul, the mystic conquest of the boundaries of reason and the Cupola of St. Peter's, parrhesia and the condition of early modern women. The lecture will be in Italian. Please note that the American Academy in Rome requires all visitors attending events to present a legal document of identification.
