Karl Daubmann – ShopDrawing

Karl Daubmann - ShopDrawing

The talk will highlight work undertaken in Rome that seeks to draw out and document the interplay between geometry, labor, and form through Borromini's work. Borromini's career is of particular interest given his training as a mason in the art of stone cutting prior to his work as a Baroque architect. The title refers to shop drawings that are the set of instructions prepared by a fabricator for use in a trade shop, typically for prefabricating building components prior to the assembly on site.

Karl Daubmann is the Founders Rome Prize Fellow in Architecture at the American Academy in Rome. He is associate professor of architecture for the Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning at the University of Michigan. He is the principal at DAUB (design, architecture, urbanism, building) in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
