Academy Tours

Join a tour for a closer look into the American Academy in Rome, a leading center for independent research in the arts and humanities for 130 years.

Please note that tours will be suspended for the last week of May and the first week of June (May 27–June 9, 2024).

Weekly Guided Tours (Registration Required)

Guided tours are scheduled on Wednesdays at 10:00am in English and Italian.

Visitors will be taken on a thirty-minute tour of the Academy’s historic McKim, Mead & White Building, including the Arthur & Janet C. Ross Library and Bass Garden.

Tours are offered free of charge; however, capacity is limited to ten people, so please register in advance. Tours begin promptly at the time indicated, and all visitors are required to stay with their guide.

Please send your name, street address, telephone number, email address, and your requested tour date to tours [at] aarome.org (tours[at]aarome[dot]org). The meeting place is Via Angelo Masina, 5 - 00153 Rome, located in Monteverde on the Janiculum Hill.

At present, access to the Academy requires the presentation of a valid photo ID. Tour dates may be subject to change.

Private Tours for Groups

Private customized tours of the American Academy in Rome and Villa Aurelia can be arranged for a contribution fee of $200 for groups up to ten people. ($20/person for groups above ten people.) Please send an email to tours [at] aarome.org (tours[at]aarome[dot]org) to schedule a private tour.

Physical Accessibility

The Academy is accessible to wheelchair users and others who need to avoid stairs. Please email us at tours [at] aarome.org (tours[at]aarome[dot]org) if you or someone in your party uses a wheelchair or other mobility devices so that we can ensure the best possible visitor experience.
