
Luca Molà
Luca Molà is a historian of early modern Europe who specializes in the global history of material culture, with particular expertise in the silk industry and exchanges between Venice and the broader world. His first monograph, The Silk Industry of Renaissance Venice (2000), remains a key reference in studies of economic and cultural networks across the Adriatic and the Mediterranean. Molà has published widely on commodities, craftsmanship, and technological transfers within Renaissance textile production.
Molà serves as professor of history at the University of Warwick, following earlier appointments including at the European University Institute. He is also director of the Warwick Venice Centre, launched in 2023 to expand Warwick’s research and public programming in Venice and beyond. Molà holds an MA and PhD from Johns Hopkins University and a laurea in history from Università Ca’ Foscari in Venice.
