Sean Salstrom

Sean Salstrom is a multidisciplinary artist specializing in glass, optics, phenomenology and absurdity. He is an Associate Professor of Glass at Rhode Island School of Design. He has held past full-time academic posts at the Toyama City Institute of Glass Art (Japan), the Akita University of Art (Japan) and the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. His work has been exhibited nationally and internationally in museums, galleries and artist spaces throughout the United States, Japan and South Korea. He has been a Smithsonian Artist Research Fund (SARF) nominee, a Louis Comfort Tiffany Award nominee, and has received the Irvin Borowsky Prize in Glass Juror’s Choice Award. Currently his studio endeavors involve hand grinding glass optics for telescopes. Understanding of our universe has grown in tandem with, and because of our ability to effectively manipulate glass. Salstrom is interested in exploring themes of universality through collective far-looking.
