Biography

Anne Coulson joined the American Academy in Rome in 1996. She has worked in the Programs Department on the annual slate of artistic and scholarly activities that serves the Rome Prize Fellows and the residential community and that reaches out to audiences in Rome and beyond.

Coulson has overseen the daily operations of the department and fostered relationships with Italian and American institutions in Rome, becoming Deputy Director for Programs and Administration in 2020. In 2023 she became Deputy Director for Fellowships and Programs, collaborating closely with the Director on the successful execution of Academy residency programs in Rome, including the Rome Prize Fellowship.

Before joining AAR, Coulson worked for the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations as a copy editor and oversaw the camera-ready copy production of scientific publications. She also worked for La Sapienza (Università di Roma), Brando Quilici Produzioni, and Colors Magazine in a similar capacity. Coulson holds a BA in history from Mount Holyoke College.
