Biography

Christopher Howard joined the American Academy in Rome in 2017. He is the author of The Jean Freeman Gallery Does Not Exist, published by MIT Press in 2018, and his writing on art and music has appeared in Artforum, Modern Painters, Art Papers, the L Magazine, Burnaway, and the Brooklyn Rail, among others. In 2014 he received an award from the Andy Warhol Foundation Arts Writers Grant Program, administered by Creative Capital. Howard earned a BA in interdisciplinary studies from the University of Florida and an MA in art history from Hunter College, City University of New York. He has worked for the Orlando Museum of Art, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, and the College Art Association. Howard lives in Astoria, Queens.
