This talk will consider the distressing “first wave” of COVID-19 when Lombardy, Italy’s wealthiest region, surprised the world by becoming the global epicenter of the pandemic. Why did this happen, and what can we learn about our vulnerabilities to Pathogen X of the future?

Frank Snowden (2003 Resident) is an AAR Trustee Emeritus and the Andrew Downey Orrick Professor Emeritus of History and History of Medicine at Yale University.

The lecture will be held in English.

This event, to be presented in person at the Academy as well as on Zoom, is free and open to the public.
