Romaeuropa Festival and the American Academy in Rome present the Italian premiere of Field of Vision, a work for 40 percussionists by American composer Michael Gordon, Paul Fromm Resident in Composition at the American Academy in Rome, performed by Blow Up Percussion. Field of Vision is conceived as a spatial, three-dimensional sonic experience in which the music moves through space, immersing both performers and listeners in an almost meditative mode of perception.
The exhibition is a dialogue between two painters: Kamrooz Aram (1978, Shiraz, Iran) and Giorgio Griffa (1936, Turin, Italy), whose work illustrates how abstract painting reverberates across time and space. Presented in collaboration with the Fondazione Giorgio Griffa, the Clark Art Institute of Art and Lorcan O'Neill Gallery, Alexander Grey Associates and the Italian Council.
The American Academy in Rome will celebrate Centennial Medal honorees Suzanne Deal Booth, Emily Wilson (2006 Fellow), and Fred Wilson (2020 Resident), at the annual New York Gala on October 29, 2026. The event brings the Academy community together in support of the essential role of the arts and humanities in our societies today.
