The Society of Fellows cohosted a Gatherings event, with the American Academy of Arts and Letters, that was held on Febraury 13 in the academy’s beautiful library on West 155th Street in Manhattan, with impressive views of the Hudson River.

The landscape architect Laurie Olin (1974 Fellow, 1990 and 2008 Resident) was in great form and gave a talk accompanied by photos of his newly published book, In Italy: Sketches and Drawings (ORO Editions).

The drawings range from very detailed, up-close examinations of villas and gardens to more abstracted, loose perceptions of Italy in its seasons and agriculture.

Olin’s introductory notes and remarks allowed us to experience the environment from his eyes: taking the time to see carefully.

In attendance were many of the community that Olin has met and befriended from his numerous visits to the Rome campus.
