Biography

Originally from China, artist and educator Alan Caomin Xie explores themes of emotional disconnection, solitude, and spiritual awakening through a diverse range of artistic styles. Influenced by Buddhist philosophy, his work reflects on the complexities of modern life, bridging cultures and offering a poignant meditation on the human condition. Since 2004, Xie has directed and taught in the studio art program at Clayton State University in Georgia.

Xie’s work has been widely exhibited both nationally and internationally. Notable exhibitions include The Outwin Boochever Portrait Competition (2006) at the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery, Altered Traditions (2007) at Ethan Cohen Fine Arts in New York, and Electronic Media Painting (2008) at the Shanghai Duolun Museum of Modern Art. His solo exhibitions include Samsara (2011) at the Museum of Contemporary Art Georgia and Map of Infinitude (2015) at the SCAD Museum of Art.

He received the Museum of Contemporary Art Georgia’s Working Artist Project Award (2010–11). Xie’s work is held in major collections including the High Museum of Art, SCAD, Telfair Museum, MOCA GA, and the Shanghai H.O.W. Art Museum.
