Fonville's Life and Photography
Sponsored by James Turner, FAAR 1976, Meriget Winans Turner, and Bob Winans

Reception 17 May, 5:30p-8:30pm

James Turner writes, "This spring my wife Meriget Winans Turner, her brother Bob Winans, and I are sponsoring a grand exhibition of their fathers' life work. Fonvile Winans was Louisiana's favorite photographer. When I went to Rome in 1975 my wife stayed behind to finish nursing school and help her ailing parents in her father's studio. In 2011 her brother and I did Cruise of the Pintail, a book about Fonville's early years, 1932 to 1934, in Louisiana. The exhibit will be in the Old State Capitol in Baton Rouge, opening May 17th and running until July 11th. There will be films, recordings, ephemera, studio equipment and of course, his marvelous black and white photos, over 80 framed originals. We urge everyone to visit the sunny south for the gala."
