R.H. Quaytman wins 2015 Wolfgang Hahn Prize, Patricia Cronin in the Venice Biennale
R.H. Quaytman, FAAR 1992 has been awarded the 2015 Wolfgang Hahn Prize by the Gesellschaft für Moderne Kunst. It will be presented on April 14, the eve of the 2015 Art Cologne art fair. Read about her in the March 29 issue of T Magazine of the New York Times. “The Mother-Daughter Thing” features Quaytman and her mother, the poet Susan Howe. The Times interviewed them at Quaytman’s home in Guilford, Connecticut.
Shrine For Girls, Venice, a Collateral Event by Patricia Cronin, FAAR 2007 will be in the 56th Venice Biennale, opening on May 6 at Cheisa di San Gallo in Venice. Cronin’s work Subverting the “Girlie” Calendar appears this month in Ms. Magazine.
Danica Pušić, AFAAR 2011 has published her translation of Copernicus' On the Revolutions of the Heavenly Spheres from Latin into Serbian. This is the first translation of this revolutionary work into any of the Southern Slavic languages. She started working on this translation during her residence at the American Academy and says, “I’m very proud and glad that my wonderful academic and convivial experience contributed so much to the preparation of this book.”
Earlier this year work by Heather Carson, FAAR 1999 was included in Elemental | Seeing the Light at Sturt Haaga Gallery, Descanso Gardens in La Cañada Flintridge,California.
From Eric Nathan, FAAR 2014: “I am thrilled to announce that I have accepted the tenure-track position of Assistant Professor of Music at Brown University! I am also honored to have been awarded a 2015 New Music USA Project Grant to support my debut CD with Albany Records. We finished recording the CD in February with Joseph Alessi recording my ‘As Above, So Below.’ The Boston Symphony Chamber Players gave a terrific premiere of my "Why Old Places Matter" in January, which received praise in the Boston Globe.”
