Jeffrey Cody - Mappa mundi to Muratori: A Journey into Conservation

Saverio Muratori (1910–1973) was a pivotal, sometimes controversial Italian architect whose research about using ‘typo- morphology’ to study Italian cities after World War II helped other architects understand urban morphology. Jeffrey Cody will explain why Muratori’s approach is helpful today in meeting the formidable challenges of urban conservation, particularly in Asia, where he is involved in training practicing architects and planners. He will also explain how his interest in Muratori also relates to his own ‘morphology’ that led him to become involved in conservation, a field that integrates his lifelong interests in cultural history, archaeology, architecture, and urbanism.

Cody is the American Academy in Rome's Rome Prize Fellow in Historic Preservation and Conservation and senior project specialist at the Getty Conservation Institute.
