Trustees Emeriti of the American Academy in Rome came together in New York on Tuesday, April 19 for a reception with Academy Fellows hosted by President Mark Robbins and Trustee Emerita Susan Nitze.

Alexandra Kleeman (2021 Fellow) spoke about her recent novel Something New Under the Sun, which was named a Notable Book of 2021 by the New York Times. She was joined by Allen Frame (2018 Fellow), a photographer and writer represented by Gitterman Gallery in New York, and Danny Smith (2021 Fellow), an artist, curator, and art historian. Frame’s project in Rome focused on portraits in Roman gardens, while Smith’s research centered on depictions of dreams in thirteenth-century Rome.

Robbins thanked the guests for their continued engagement with the American Academy in Rome and shared the latest news from the Janiculum Hill. He expressed his hope that the Trustees Emeriti would hold another gathering soon.
