Ezra Laderman died on February 28, 2015. He was 90 years old.
Both a Fellow and a Resident of the Academy, Laderman was a prolific composer with a diverse body of work that includes symphonies, operas, concertos, and music for motion pictures and the theater. He was Dean of the Yale School of Music for many years and President of the American Academy of Arts and Letters.
Born of immigrant parents in Brooklyn, he fought in World War II and was a member of the GI Symphony in Paris. After the war he studied at Brooklyn College and Columbia University. Besides the Rome Prize his awards include three Guggenheim Fellowships.
